Eugene C Scharle

Eugene C Scharle "Gene" 78,of Allentown, PA died May 15, 2024 in Lehigh Valley Hospital Hospice, Allentown. He was the son of the late Vincent and the late Ann(Driscoll) Scharle of Allentown.Gene's love of the outdoors was evident in his many hobbies, which included hiking with the Allentown hiking club, bike riding at the Velodrome, camping and spelunking. He delighted in finding treasures at yard sales and was always happy to hunt down an item for others.Gene graduated from ACCH in 1964 and from PSU in 1968 and worked as a draftsman in the Navy Ship Yard in Newport News, VA and later when family obligations called him home he worked for Eastern Engineering in Quakertown, PA. Upon retiring, Gene became a volunteer with the Cetronia Ambulance Corp.Above all else, Gene was a faithful son to his beloved parents. He took care of both of them until both had passed away.Gene is survived by many cousins from the Driscoll, Hamrick, Hart, Roethke, Scharle,and Zatko families with whom he spent many a social gathering. Gene was always punctual, and often one of the last to leave for home, cherishing every moment spent with family and friends. His dry sense of humor would sneak up on you and bring a smile to those in the know. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of St Catharine of Siena Church,18th & Turner Sts., Allentown.Viewing: Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday 10-11 a.m. at Robert C, Weir Funeral Home, 18th & Turner Sts., Allentown. Interment: Friday in Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown.
