Janet H. Kurz of Macungie passed in the arms of her Lord and Savior on October 18, 2024 in St Luke's Hospital Allentown, PA. She was born in Scranton, PA in 1939 to Joseph E Halchak and Mary Natishyn - Halchak. She graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1956. She graduated from Kutztown University in 1960 with a teaching certificate and completed post- graduate work. She attended East Stroudsburg University to obtain a second major in Psychology. She was a teacher in Governor Mifflin School Districts in Reading Pennsylvania for 5 years and Allentown School district at Dodd elementary for 32 years. Jan had a brief marriage to Neil Kurz while living in Reading Pa. She also then lived in Allentown, Catasauqua and lastly Macungie Pa. She was a volunteer for Musikfest for 17 years as house manager for the concerts and served on the Musikfest Ball Committee which she loved. She also volunteered at Banana Factory as a docent. She served as lay person for the Lehigh County Parole Board. She served at the Allentown art museum as a guide. She was a Young Republican for a few years, then worked for the Democratic Party, working on the campaign of Senator Fred B Rooney. Previously she served as a mediator for the Better Business Bureau. She belonged to the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena Catholic Church where she was a member of the Cathedral Choir with whom she traveled to Rome and clasped the hand of Pope John Paul II. They also traveled to Germany and Austria giving concerts at many churches. After retiring from teaching, she mentored two boys of a Polish Immigrant family who became successful in their fields after college. Survived by sister Jean and husband Clark W. Convery; nephew Clark J. and wife Janeen and grandnephew Ryan Dean Convery. Like a "daughter" Eleanor Mayer. The Dobrowolski Family (Barbara, Mateusz, Peter, Amanda, Mia and John). Friend and beloved caregiver Joanna Kimborowicz. Many family and close relatives. Predeceased by her Father Joseph Halchak and Mother Mary Halchak, Aunts and Uncles. Jan loved to entertain and socialize with close family, friends and neighbors in her backyard while watching beautiful fireworks. She was eternally optimistic about life and God's gifts; she was the kindest giving person to everyone. Jan will remain in our hearts eternally.
