John J Matera, 95, of Allentown, went into the arms of our Lord on January 18, 2015. Born in Elizabeth, NJ he was the son of the late Jacob and the late Mary (Krypel) Matera. He was the husband of Dorothy(Smetana) Matera and they would have celebrated their 66th anniversary on Feb 6. He proudly served his country in the US Army in World War II. Before retiring in 1983 he worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 45 yrs. John's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. Before he lost his eyesight to Macular Degeneration he was an avid golfer, loved reading and playing pinochle with his family. He also loved cheering on the NY Yankees. John was a long time member of the Cathedral St Catharine of Siena. For many years he volunteered preparing taxes in the Lehigh Valley. He is a member of the PA Voter Hall of Fame for having voted consecutively at every Nov election for 50 yrs. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, 4 brothers and son in law Edward Kennedy.
