Katherine "Kay" Frances (nee Mitchell) Boandl of Allentown passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Phoebe Home in Allentown at the age of 104. She was born in St John's Newfoundland, Canada as a British citizen. During WW II, Kay worked as a civilian secretary 1941-1943 for the U.S. Army at Pepperell Air Force Base in St. John's Newfoundland. She proudly became an American citizen when she married her boss Captain Alfred Boandl in 1942 and moved to the United States. While raising her four children Kay was an Avon lady and walked with her children while delivering to her customers in the West End of Allentown. Later she worked part-time in the Cafeteria at William Allen High School and eventually promoted to a teacher's aide for special needs children at the Hiram W. Dodd Elementary School. Kay was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Women's Auxiliary and donated her time to work in the cafeteria at the church school. She was a block captain in her neighborhood for the March of Dimes for many years. After retiring Kay volunteered at Phoebe Home for over 20 years. She loved the Phillies and the Flyers. Her hobbies were playing Bridge, Poker and Rummy 500. She is survived by a daughter, Lois Schneider of Long Beach, CA; son Richard Boandl (and Judy Kern) of Lower Macungie Township; son Philip Boandl of Allentown; grandson Justin Boandl of Northampton; grandson Richard (and Jennifer) Boandl, Jr. of Allentown; great-grandson Richard Joshua Boandl; great-grandson Mitchell Boandl; grandchild David Kern of Atlanta GA; granddaughter Kristy (Kern) Newill (and Michael Newill) of Slatington; great-grandson Landon Newill of Slatington; and great-granddaughter Lydia Newill of Slatington. Kay was preceded in death by her son Glenn Boandl; brother Myles Mitchell; brother Bryan Mitchell; brother William; and sister Mary (Mitchell) Boyle. Services will be private Contributions may be made in Kay's memory to Phoebe Ministries. The Robert C Weir Funeral Home of Allentown will be handling the arrangements.
