Obituary

Mary Ann Rocco, born Mary Ann Kober on June 8, 1941, in Allentown, PA, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep on February 28, 2024, in Allentown at the age of 82.Mary Ann lived a life full of warmth, wisdom, grace, laughter, and tears. She enjoyed watching her beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish while sipping on a Jameson or two. She graduated from Allentown Central Catholic in May 1959 and soon after married her high school sweetheart, Anthony J. Rocco also known as "Tony" and then "Pop". Nana and Pop celebrated their 64-year anniversary this past November 29th, 2023. Mary Ann gave selflessly to her family and those around herMary Ann dedicated over 30 years of her life to working for the Allentown Area school district. Fondly known as "Rocco" by her colleagues. She was a teaching aide in the "Life Skills" classes where she was able to give of herself to special needs children. She worked at Midway Manor Elementary, Union Terrace, and Hiram Dodd for 27 years where she forged her deep relationship with Cathy Eck, who had the privilege of claiming her as "My Rocco". She then finished her career at Raub Middle School as a Library Assistant. She was a genuine bright light and pure joy in the lives of her students and especially her colleagues. Many of her colleagues described her laugh as completely infectious! Mary Ann and Tony could not wait to start a family of their own, and their children meant the world to them. Mary Ann, known as Nana, leaves behind her beloved husband Tony and her greatest joy, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sons Joseph G Rocco (Diana) of Allentown and their daughters, Sarah, and Christina; Anthony M. Rocco of Allentown, her special gift from God; Matthew F. Rocco (April) of Nacogdoches, TX and their children Nick Rocco, Matthew A Rocco (Brittany), Lexie Rocco Yates (Dillon), Jermaine Wilson, and Jamaal Wilson; and their only daughter, Lisa Rocco (Greg) of Nacogdoches, TX and her children Michael Almazan (Cierra) and George Horn. Nana will be missed by her great grandchildren Collin, Noah, Kynslee, Madelyn, Jaden, and Ava. Mary Ann is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joanne Rocco Carter (George) and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.SERVICES:A viewing for Mary Ann will take place at Robert C Weir Funeral Home, 18th & Turner Sts. in Allentown, PA, on Monday, March 4th, from 5-7 PM, and on Tuesday, March 5th, from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Cathedral St. Catherine of Siena Church in Allentown, PA, on Tuesday, March 5th, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or VIA of the Lehigh Valley. The Robert C Weir Funeral Home in Allentown, PA, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
