Thomas J. McDermott III, 88, of Allentown, passed away in his sleep on October 21, 2024. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Thomas J. McDermott Jr. and Sara (Hoch) McDermott. Tom was married to Julianne K. (Decker) for 36 years. He served in the Navy during peaceful times. Tom was a graduate of Allentown High School and he received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University. He was employed by the former Fuller Concrete Co. for many years. He faithfully attended the Cathedral Church of St. Catharine of Siena, where he was a member of the Cathedral Choir for over 50 years. Tom was also a member of the Allentown Diocesan Choir. He assisted with Reading for ESL in the Allentown School District for many years. He enjoyed playing golf, followed the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, and was an avid fan of Duke's basketball team. He was environmentally conscious and an enthusiastic animal lover; Barney was his beloved Bedlington Terrier. Tom traveled to Ireland many times with Julie and enjoyed his Guinness. He will be sadly missed. He was predeceased by his Wife, Julieanne and Son, Andrew. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:30 AM at Cathedral Church of St. Catharine of Siena, 18th & Turner Sts., Allentown.
