Obituary

Walter Griffith, 88, of Walnutport, PA, passed away on September 7, 2025. Born June 17, 1937, at Astoria General Hospital in Queens, New York, Walter lived a life dedicated to service, education, and family. He attended P.S. 162 and P.S. 192 before graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School. Walter went on to Rutgers University, earning his degree in history in 1959 after beginning his studies in chemical engineering. In addition to his work as an educator, Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard as a Private First Class for four years. Following his passion for history, Walter began his teaching career in New York mat P.S. 192, where he had once been a student himself. After two years there and one year at Springfield Gardens, he spent the remainder of his career teaching history at Frances Lewis High School, inspiring generations of students. Walter married twice in his life. He was first happily married to Joyce (Miller) Griffith until her passing in 1989. In 2006, he married Barbara (Kearney) Griffith, and they shared many happy years together until her passing in 2012. He had a deep love of World War II books and movies, television shows such as Dexter and Downton Abbey, and the joy of taking long country drives in his convertible. Walter was predeceased by his cousin Al Miles and wife Karen survives. Walter is survived by his son, Christopher Walter Griffith of Walnutport; his cousin David Miles of Moore Township; and his extended family, including stepchildren Timothy Kearney and his wife Michelle of Center Valley, Barbara (Kearney) Ziegler and her husband Ronald of Barto, and Jennifer (Kearney) Horn and her husband Thomas of Emmaus. He was a proud grandfather to April (Horn) Weymouth and her husband Evan, Brittany Horn, Danielle (Beecher) Schneider and her husband Marc, Michael Horn, Aiden Horn, and Bridget Kearney. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Connor, Ryan, Emma, and Shannon Weymouth. Services will be held September 17, 2025, at Robert C. Weir Funeral Home, 18th & Turner Streets, Allentown, followed by burial at St. Ann's Calvary Cemetery, Emmaus.
